Our second site is located on the East side of the river Severn, amongst open meadows and riverside scenery

Longney
Although only 4.5 miles from Flaxley, the growing conditions at Longney are vastly different.
Very close to the river Severn on ancient tidal flats, this is a relatively level site with lime-rich clay loam soils over blue lias- a marine calcareous mudstone formed in the Triassic and Jurassic periods.
Longney enjoys lower rainfall and slightly warmer temperatures too, thanks to its very low altitude.
We planted 6.5 acres of vineyard in 2019, and our heritage orchard of various local cider varieties is here too.
Our grape varieties
Pinot Noir
This versatile variety is at home in our white and rosé sparkling wines, rosé still wines and can be used for red wine too in good years.
Chardonnay
Primarily used in our sparkling white wines, but we also select a small amount to produce a still Chardonnay too.
Pinot Meunier
The third of our classic Champagne varieties, and used for our white and rosé sparkling wines, bringing weight and structure to the wines.
Pinot Noir Early
Early ripening Pinot Noir used for our red wine. This consistently performs well in our cooler climate.
Solaris
Very early ripening white wine variety, used here for still wines, but can be left to get a late harvest style dessert wine in warm years.
Seyval Blanc
Reliable vine variety that shrugs off frost and cooler seasons to consistently produce a good clean crop of grapes. We use this in our sparkling wines to give a lively zesty character.
