Our main site can be found on the West side of the river Severn, in the picturesque Flaxley Estate, near Newnham on Severn
View from meadowland of Home Farm, towards farm buildings and Flaxley Abbey.
Flaxley
This idyllic site, in the historic Castiard Valley has amazing shelter from the ancient wooded hillsides that surround the course of the Westbury Brook.
The South facing slopes capture maximum sunshine and warmth throughout the growing season, and benefit from the rain shadow of the Welsh Hills and the Forest of Dean to the west, giving us enough, but not too much rainfall in most years!
There are 22.5 acres of vineyard within the 140 acres estate, all planted in 2020. Our soils are deep silty loams, over red Raglan Silurian mudstone rock formations. These are fairly fertile soils that are perfect for growing fantastic fruit.
Our grape varieties
Pinot Noir
This versatile variety is at home in our white and rosé sparkling wines, rosé still wines and can be used for red wine too in good years.
Chardonnay
Primarily used in our sparkling white wines, but we also select a small amount to produce a still Chardonnay too.
Pinot Meunier
The third of our classic Champagne varieties, and used for our white and rosé sparkling wines, bringing weight and structure to the wines.
Pinot Noir Early
Early ripening Pinot Noir used for our red wine. This consistently performs well in our cooler climate.
Solaris
Very early ripening white wine variety, used here for still wines, but can be left to get a late harvest style dessert wine in warm years.
Seyval Blanc
Reliable vine variety that shrugs off frost and cooler seasons to consistently produce a good clean crop of grapes. We use this in our sparkling wines to give a lively zesty character.
